MASTER CLASS BY PHILIPPE ROS AFC AT HAIFA FILM FESTIVAL

Special thanks to Imago, Nigel Walters (BSC) and Richard Andry (AFC)

PRESENTATION BY ACT:
ACT, The Israel Association of Cinema & Television Professionals, is pleased to host Mr. Philippe Ros AFC in a master class on “Cinema and Television Photography in the Digital Age”.
We are in a period of transition to digital photography and recording formats.
“Digital” is sometimes mistakenly used as an adjective for quality, but picture quality is dependent on a number of factors and it is essential to have an understanding of all the controls on the camera and post-production options.

Philippe Ros AFC is a renowned director of photography and digital imaging supervisor from France and uses his latest projects as case studies in his master class.
After 5 years of experience on “Oceans” in matching film and digital formats, Philippe Ros AFC is one of the top experts to explain all the different aspects of the digital intermediate and the entire workflow. In fact, “Oceans” was a laboratory, and serves as a great example to highlight the basic thinking, which implies being aware of which distribution or broadcasting model we are aiming for, before deciding on the shooting and post-production options. So many shoots in different conditions were made that “Oceans” can provide useful information even for indie films. It provides in-depth information on every step along an entirely digital production chain, on new digital production tools, and work flows.

Philippe Ros AFC will share his tips and methods to maximize quality on workflow, starting with ways of testing cameras and choosing lenses. Particular attention will be paid to a controversial topic in digital acquisition: file-based systems versus tape-based systems.
By means of numerous short screenings, he will compare the most reliable solutions currently available, from the high to the low end through his experience in film and digital, for TV and feature films, with the aim of respecting the ergonomics of shooting and post-production that each project requires.
Technical solutions or issues should not overshadow or smother the desire to make films.
Produced by: Ron Katzenelson - DOP & Idan Or – ACT- General Manager
The master class will held on September 24th at "Hecht" building at Haifa Cinematic and will be conducted in English.
